Zapper Shuts Down DeFi Portfolio Dashboard After Seven Years

Zapper, a decentralized finance portfolio management platform, is set to cease operations on August 3, which includes shutting down its website, mobile applications, and API services. Co-founder and CEO Seb Audet revealed this decision on X, attributing it to declining demand. Established in 2020 by Audet and Suhail Gangji, Zapper gained recognition by winning a DeFi hackathon organized by Kyber in 2019 and successfully raised a $1.5 million seed round. In 2021, the company secured a $15 million Series A funding led by Framework Ventures, with contributions from Mark Cuban, Coinbase Ventures, and Ashton Kutcher's Sound Ventures. At its height, Zapper had over 2 million monthly active users and facilitated transactions exceeding $13 billion. The shutdown follows a social engineering breach in April 2025 that compromised its domain. Users are required to export their data by August 3. Zapper's closure reflects a wider trend in the industry, as Ctrl Wallet and Moonbeam are also shutting down. Despite a 57.6% year-over-year increase in crypto venture capital to $4.21 billion in Q2, the number of deals has declined in nine of the past ten quarters.
