Werner Herzog Returns to Venice with 'Bucking Fastard'

At the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, Werner Herzog presented his new film 'Bucking Fastard', marking his return after receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement the previous year. The film explores obsession, a recurring theme in Herzog's work, and stars Kate Mara and Rooney Mara as Irish twins Jean and Joan Holbrooke, who live in symbiosis, speak in unison, share dreams, and love the same man (Orlando Bloom). The story is inspired by the real-life British twins Freda and Greta Chaplin, who in the early 1980s became infatuated with the same neighbor, a truck driver who eventually obtained a restraining order against them. The evening also featured John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, and Steve Buscemi, who star in 'Wild Horse Nine' by Martin McDonagh, one of the most anticipated films of the edition. Set just before the 1973 Chilean coup d'état, two CIA agents (Malkovich and Rockwell) are transferred by their boss (Buscemi) from Santiago to Easter Island. Italian actors Alessandro Borghi, Valeria Golino, and Valerio Mastandrea presented 'Nessun dolore' by Gianni Amelio, while Matilda De Angelis appeared for 'Balcanica' by Nicola Sorcinelli, both out-of-competition films.
