Warehouse Rave Merges Art and Dance Music at Art Basel

A massive warehouse-style rave, Warehouse Artefacts, will take place on Saturday in Hall 1.1 South of Messe Basel during Art Basel. Conceived by artist Julian Charrière, musician Thomas Bangalter (formerly of Daft Punk), and DJ Rampa, the event blurs boundaries between installation, theatre, party, and social experiment. The 3,000 sq. m space opens at 11am as an installation for Art Basel ticket holders until 5pm, featuring flickering lights, fog, and sounds derived from house music components, such as a Roland TR-808 bass drum stretched hundreds of times. At the center sits a sealed glass monolith containing an analogue tape machine playing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights read by Eleanor Roosevelt. Charrière emphasizes the importance of reflecting on hopeful efforts during politically difficult times. At 6pm, the space transforms into a rave led by Rampa and a special guest; all 3,400 tickets are sold out.
