Unproduced Chairs from the 1970s and ’80s Debut at Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design

festival-fair · 2026-09-30

At the 3 Days of Design festival in Copenhagen this June, three notable chairs from the 1970s and ’80s were showcased. The Ozu chair, envisioned by Vico Magistretti in 1986 for Shigeto Muto, the founder of Cassina IXC, has only now been brought to life. Alessio Giacomel, the CEO of Cassina IXC, remarked that it was “ahead of its time.” Nanna Ditzel’s Arkade Chairs, originally designed in 1983, were finally manufactured in 2020 due to their artistic appeal. Additionally, Dan Svarth’s Wire Chair, created in 1972, saw production in 2021 with A. Petersen. Curator Alexandra Cunningham Cameron emphasized that these items represent a movement of furniture designed by architects across diverse fields.
