Two Must-See Shows at the Hamburg Photography Triennial

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The eighth edition of the Triennial of Photography Hamburg, running until August 29 and September 18, 2022, features 20 venues under the theme 'Currency,' curated by Koyo Kouoh with ten museum curators. The triennial explores photography as a medium of exchange. At the Hamburger Kunsthalle, 'Give and Take' presents 21 artists including Sara Cwynar, whose 'Glass Life' (2021) critiques consumer culture and identity through a six-channel video installation. At Deichtorhallen, 'Photography Beyond Capture' offers a counter-mapping of the Anthropocene with works by 29 artists, notably Fazal Sheikh's 'Desert Bloom' documenting the ecological and social impact of Israeli desert development in the Negev.
