Toronto's 2026 Design Week Showcases Canadian and International Design Talent

Toronto's 2026 design week featured IDS Toronto and the DesignTO festival, highlighting Canada's growing creative influence. Prime Minister Mark Carney's World Economic Forum address in Davos, Switzerland, preceded the events, coinciding with rising national pride. IDS Toronto presented local designers including Ourse, Coolican & Company, Hollis+Morris, Studio Drum, and William Ukoh, alongside international participant Moooi from the Netherlands launching its Peaks sofa. DesignTO's off-site programming included Mark Khoury and Devansh Shah's Touch Point sconce for the "Nice to Meet You!" exhibition, Jamie Wolfond's 8×7 gallery show "Tape" with contributions from Earnest Studio, and Myles Burry and Kate Golding's Drawed' Through mirror collection at the Drake Hotel. The period also saw Canada's Olympic hockey teams lose two gold medal games in overtime, maintaining the country's hockey reputation while showcasing other strengths. Key designs included the Asquith table by Coolican & Company inspired by Group of Seven paintings, Knit lighting by Hollis+Morris using Byborre textiles, the Toriwam lounge chair by William Ukoh, and the Abbey dining chair by Thom Fougere for Ourse. Yves Béhar originally developed Moooi's Peaks sofa as a pandemic playzone for his family.
