TONO Festival 2026 Presents Time-Based Art Across Mexico City and Puebla Venues
The fourth edition of TONO Festival, dedicated to time-based art forms, took place from March 6 to 22, 2026, across seven venues in Mexico City and continued through late April at Museo Amparo in Puebla. Founded and directed by Samantha Ozer, the festival featured performance, dance, music, and moving image works. Key participants included artist Tino Sehgal, who presented 'This Joy' at Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo, and a collaboration between composer Eli Keszler and artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer at Museo de Arte Moderno. The closing weekend included a concert, a new dance performance by Kiani del Valle, and a celebration co-hosted with the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin. The festival expanded its partnership with Museo Amparo, presenting an exhibition by Ho Tzu Nyen, who is also the artistic director of the 2026 Gwangju Biennale. Other highlights included a dance program with Alessandro Sciarroni, supported by Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, and a film program curated by Rosalia Namsai Engchuan of Bangkok Kunsthalle, featuring Thai filmmakers. The event attracted international figures such as Klaus Biesenbach and Hans Ulrich Obrist, fostering global dialogue. TONO operates as a nomadic project, with future collaborations announced for Berlin and New York.
