Tokyo Gendai 2026 Closes at Pacifico Yokohama, Announces Move to Ariake GYM-EX for 2027
The fourth edition of Tokyo Gendai took place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at Pacifico Yokohama, featuring 69 galleries, a slight rise from the previous year, with a nearly equal representation of Japanese and international exhibitors. Fair director Eri Takane highlighted the importance of this balance. The event showcased five distinct sectors: Galleries, Hana, Eda, Tane, and the newly introduced Miki sector. Among the standout pieces were Sarah Lucas's Blue Bunny (2025) and Yu Nishimura's Diffraction (2026). KOTARO NUKAGA successfully sold over 20 artworks during the VIP preview, while BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY highlighted Thai artists. Japan continues to be the second-largest art market in Asia. The fair is set to relocate to Ariake GYM-EX from November 4 to 7, 2027, during Art Week Tokyo.
