Tinto Brass's 'Col cuore in gola' to Open 83rd Venice Film Festival in Restored 4K

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival will open with a pre-opening screening of Tinto Brass's 1967 film 'Col cuore in gola' on September 1, 2026, at the Sala Darsena on the Lido di Venezia. The film, a pop thriller set in London starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Ewa Aulin, will be presented in a world premiere of a 4K digital restoration. The restoration was carried out by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma with support from Netflix, using materials from rights holders Compass Film. The film features graphic consultation by Guido Crepax, who created color storyboards for the action sequences. Brass, a Venetian-born director known for his anticonformist style, began his career in Paris as an assistant to Joris Ivens and Roberto Rossellini. His debut 'In capo al mondo' (1963) faced censorship. 'Col cuore in gola' was originally presented out of competition at the 1967 Venice Film Festival. The 83rd edition runs from September 2 to 12, 2026, directed by Alberto Barbera.
