The Next Interface: Google Gemini and It's Nice That Explore AI Design in New York

On Thursday, September 17, from 2-6pm, New York Live Arts will host 'The Next Interface,' a free event co-organized by It's Nice That and Google Gemini. The event brings together designers, creatives, and technologists to examine how AI is reshaping digital interfaces and the role of designers in this transformation. It follows the launch of Neural Expressive, Gemini's new design language unveiled at Google I/O earlier this year, which introduces fluid animation, vibrant color, new typography, and iconography to communicate thinking, intelligence, and dynamism. Rather than static screens, Gemini can now respond with imagery, interactive timelines, video, and dynamic graphics. Speakers from Gemini's UX team will discuss the thinking behind Neural Expressive, covering visual and creative direction, generative UI, AI agents, and processes for building experiences with unpredictable technology. New York-based studio Human NYC will also present its practice, sharing insights on how design tools have evolved and what remains fundamentally human. Human NYC recently launched Babs, an AI-powered family organizational app, for which they handled brand identity, copy, art direction, photo/video, and marketing site design. The event will include talks, conversations, demos, and networking opportunities, exploring questions about human judgment, collaboration with AI, and designing for adaptive systems.
