Taron Egerton Plays a Performative Male Ally in 'Everybody Wants to Fuck Me,' Premiering at TIFF

Jonathan Schey's debut feature, 'Everybody Wants to Fuck Me,' premiered last week at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Taron Egerton as Adam, a performative male who works at a female-run gallery in London, practices yoga, and displays a curated bookshelf including 'Perfection,' 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation,' and 'The Country Girls.' After a kinky encounter with Sofia (Jessica Henwick), a classics major he meets at a staging of 'Oedipus Rex,' Adam wakes up to find that every woman wants to sleep with him. The film explores post-Me Too politics of desire and the exhaustion of remaining desirable, drawing comparisons to 'Obsession' and 'The Substance.' It also features Charly Clive as Emma, Herbert Nordrum as Reuben, and was inspired by comedian Mary Beth Barone's experience. The movie is noted for its lower gore factor compared to 'Obsession' and its focus on the limitations of a certain archetype rather than providing a path forward through heteropessimistic antagonism.
