Tableau's Julius Værnes Iversen on the Aalto 90 Pavilion and Copenhagen Design Scene

festival-fair · 2026-06-04

Copenhagen-based creative studio Tableau, founded by Julius Værnes Iversen in 2018, is presenting multiple projects at 3 Days of Design 2026. The centerpiece is the Aalto 90 Pavilion, a seven-metre-high aluminium structure marking the 90th anniversary of Alvar and Aino Aalto's iconic vase, developed with Iittala and Hydro. Tableau is also launching product collaborations with Secolo, Bloc Studios, and Normann Copenhagen, and hosting the second edition of Project Materia, a material-led platform co-founded with Nicki Friis Willumsen of Edition Solenne. Nine designers have created objects from Matek, a waste-based material by Danish brand Mater. Værnes Iversen, who studied law and started Tableau as a gallery after co-inheriting his father's flower shop, describes himself as a 'black sheep' in Copenhagen's design scene. He is establishing a residency programme in Pietrasanta, Italy, and aims to expand into art. The Aalto 90 Pavilion will be at Ofelia Plads, Project Materia at Købmagergade 3, and other projects at Tableau's venues on Vimmelskaftet 41a and Store Strandstræde 20. 3 Days of Design runs 10–12 June 2026.
