Summit Photo 2026: Climate crisis images from around the world

Summit Photo, the Royal Geographical Society's interactive forum, runs 17–19 July in London and online, showcasing environmental and humanitarian photography. The event features works by James Balog, Simon Townsley, Gideon Mendel, Shahidul Alam, Mandy Barker, Selene Magnolia Gatti, Rhiannon Adam, Erdiola Kanda Mustafaj, Giles Duley, and Aaron Gekoski. Balog's 'Flame Front #6' captures a wildfire near Fort Providence, Northwest Territories, Canada (2015). Townsley documents Bashirya Murtala and her infant Rahila in Anka, Zamfara state, Nigeria, displaced by economic crisis and banditry. Mendel portrays Terrence McKeen and his mother Gloria in Middleburg after Hurricane Irma. Alam's images show shipbreaking workers in Chittagong, Bangladesh (2008), and a 2020 protest in Dhaka against the Digital Security Act. Barker's 'Still Falling, Flesh-Footed Shearwater' responds to plastic pollution on Lord Howe Island. Gatti photographs pig factory farms in Lugo, Italy (May 2023) and Zeeland, Netherlands (April 2024). Adam captures three generations of Muslim women at Lake Salda, Turkey. Mustafaj, recipient of the Hidden Narratives Residency, presents 'The landscape of shadows' from Stockholm (2025). Duley documents Aya, a Syrian refugee in Lebanon (2014). Gekoski's 'Under the Lights' shows an elephant in a ceremonial procession in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
