Subsonica Celebrates 30-Year Career with Turin Concert Series and Exhibition
The Italian band Subsonica is marking three decades of activity with a multi-event celebration in their hometown of Turin. The centerpiece is a series of four sold-out concerts at OGR Torino, each featuring a different setlist. The first performance lasted three hours and served as a tribute to Turin's 1990s cultural landscape, which shaped the group's musical identity. The stage design included an extended frontal platform with AI-generated visuals and was divided into three sections, with acoustic versions of songs played on original period instruments. Special guests included rapper Willie Peyote, who performed on 'Liberi tutti,' and singer Eugenio Finardi, who marked the 50th anniversary of 'Musica ribelle.' Artist Michelangelo Pistoletto also made an appearance at another concert. Following each live set, band members performed DJ sets. Concurrently, the exhibition 'Rientro in Atmosfera' is on view at OGR Torino's Duomo until April 12. Curated by the Turin-based agency Consiste Entertainment, the show explores the band's artistic journey through photographs, memorabilia, stage costumes, instruments, and archival equipment. Curators Enrica Pesca and Chiara Miranda aimed to create an immersive, non-linear experience rather than a chronological retrospective. Additional citywide events include 'Istantanee – Ritratti A Cielo Aperto,' an outdoor photo exhibition under porticoes; 'Il Mio Dj by PNA,' a tram-turned-mobile club with DJ sets; 'Rimango Subsonico,' a multimedia performance by musicteller Federico Sacchi; and 'Nei Nostri Luoghi – Percorsi Sonori,' an audio-guided tour of ten Turin locations that inspired the band's music. The broader festival program, titled 'Cieli su Torino 96-26,' runs through April 12.
