STHLMFW 2026: Stockholm Fashion Week Reimagined as Youthquake

Stockholm Fashion Week, relaunched as STHLMFW in 2025 with government funding, returned in 2026 as a platform for emerging talents, marking a generational shift away from the expatriation of major Swedish brands. The event, organized by the Association of Swedish Fashion Brands (ASFB), featured a pick-a-season schedule and focused on anti-establishment, underground communities. Notable shows included Leoní by Filippa Fuxe and Nathalie Schuterman, which deconstructed vintage patterns; Maddwoo by Madeleine Woo, a ballet dancer who gothifies balletcore; Bewider by Peter Jansson, a veteran who launched Cheap Monday and Weekday, inspired by Manchester's Hacienda club; Steph Orzoco, using upcycled materials and diverse casting; Gullbo by Emily Gullbo, known for latex printing; DSTN by Dustin Glickman, with Western themes and customized vintage jeans; STHLM MISC by Julia Åsberg, inspired by construction workers; and A-DSGN by Alice Stenlöf, a Scandinavian streetwear brand. The event highlighted a hunger for local fashion expression, with street style reflecting the designers' underground communities. ASFB chairman Michael Elembeck stated the ambition is not to replicate past fashion weeks but to contribute uniquely to the global fashion conversation. The event also saw participation from brands like Studio Constance and Past Tense, providing ballast. The shift reflects a broader trend of rebalancing the spotlight toward emerging talents, as noted by director John-Jamal Gille.
