Star Trek Fans to Attempt Guinness World Record for Largest Vulcan Salute at London's Science Museum

On 8 September, Star Trek Day, hundreds of fans will gather at London's Science Museum to attempt setting a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute. The gesture, popularized by Leonard Nimoy's character Spock, first appeared in a 1967 episode of the original series. The event is part of the museum's celebration of the franchise's 60-year legacy, which has connected storytelling with scientific themes. Glyn Morgan, principal curator, emphasized the museum's alignment with Star Trek's exploration of science and technology. If verified, the attempt would establish a new record, as none currently exists. The event also offers a final chance to experience the Star Trek Warp Trail, featuring costumes such as Chief Engineer Scotty's uniform worn by Simon Pegg in the 2009 film and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's uniform worn by Sir Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard (2020-2023). The franchise has spawned numerous series and films since the 1960s, including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.
