Städel Museum Launches Free ARTEMIS Digital App for Dementia Care After Years of Testing
In Frankfurt, the Städel Museum has introduced ARTEMIS Digital, a complimentary web application designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. This initiative evolved from an in-person program led by Professor Johannes Pantel in collaboration with Goethe University Frankfurt. The monthly sessions featured tours and activities, changing themes every six months. Research conducted between 2014 and 2017 indicated that participants experienced enhanced quality of life, while family caregivers reported improved well-being. The pandemic underscored the challenges of isolation, leading to the creation of the digital platform. Accessible through a browser, the app showcases artworks such as the Upper Rhenish Master's Paradise Garden (c. 1410–20) and includes interactive features. Testing with couples resulted in adjustments to its functionality. ARTEMIS Digital can be found at artemis.staedelmuseum.de, supported by a study from Goethe University.
