SP-Arte Rotas 2025: Desfiguring to Reconfigure Latin American Art
This week, the fifth edition of SP-Arte Rotas commenced at Arca in São Paulo, continuing through Sunday, August 30. The event includes six international galleries, broadening the scope for non-Eurocentric art. Curator Bernardo Mosqueira's exhibition 'Primeiro Estudo: Sobre a Paisagem' encourages galleries to present artists who push the boundaries of Brazilian art. Highlights include Emer Freire's works at Claraboia, Pedro Neves' 'visagens' at Mitre, Rodrigo Bueno's research showcased at Passado Composto Século XX, and Helô Sanvoy's 'Fazendo Ausências (Lucidez Difusa)' at Cerrado. Indigenous artists featured are Pedro Macuxi, Santiago Yahurcani, and Joseca Yanomami. Anthropologist Daniel Jabra emphasizes that Yanomami ontology prioritizes image over representation, reflecting skepticism towards direct representation in the exhibited works.
