Sónar+D 2026 Blends Robotic Art and AI Spirituality in Barcelona

Scheduled for June 18–19, 2026, Sónar+D will be hosted at Barcelona's historic Llotja de Mar, showcasing projects that blend biological and algorithmic technologies. Notable exhibits include Volvox Labs' Astral Twin, a robotic arm that paints in mid-air; Qs Ventures 2147's A Voice from the Future, a moss-covered phone booth featuring an AI character; and Superbe's From0, which investigates language through sound and movement. The Expo+D segment will highlight Yehwan Song's friction-based interfaces, Lola Liñán Fernández's digital rosary, and Liz Melchor's Fortune Robot. Designboom's Managing Editor, Claire Brodka, will facilitate a discussion with Yehwan Song. Additional works include Leon Eckard's bat-echolocation headset and Google DeepMind's Lyria 3 AI tools, with guests such as Eugene Healey and Mindy Seu.
