Singapore Design Week Transforms into Biennial Event for 2027

festival-fair · 2026-04-07

In 2027, the Singapore Design Biennale will be introduced by DesignSingapore Council, taking the place of the annual Singapore Design Week. This inaugural event is set to run from May 14 to June 20, 2027, a change from its previous September schedule. The new five-week format significantly extends the event, which previously lasted only 11 days. Dawn Lim, the director of DesignSingapore Council, stated that this transition is a natural progression after ten editions of Singapore Design Week since 2014. She noted that the biennial format fosters more ambitious concepts, enhanced collaborations, and innovative projects with global impact. An open call for participants is expected to begin in June 2026. This adjustment aligns with similar biennial changes in the international design scene, including the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Stockholm Design Week in 2027.
