Samantha McCoy launches Argo Fine Arts gallery with debut at Art Paris featuring Christiane Löhr solo show

Samantha McCoy founded Argo Fine Arts, a gallery operating between Paris and New York with an ephemeral model prioritizing artists over physical spaces. Her debut exhibition occurs at the 28th edition of Art Paris, running 9-12 April at the Grand Palais, where she presents a solo presentation of German artist Christiane Löhr alongside a second space with other works. Löhr creates delicate minimalist sculptures from natural materials like grass stalks and dandelion seeds, paired with organic black-and-white line drawings. McCoy's gallery features a rare early figurative landscape by Jackson Pollock, her great-uncle, from a private collection with impeccable provenance, alongside Cy Twombly prints of Latin poets' names and works by Charles Pollock and Richard Learoyd. McCoy studied industrial labor relations and art history at Cornell before working in fashion and later for her father's gallery for nearly five years, followed by a stint at Magnum Photos. She named the gallery Argo after the mythological ship of Jason, using calligraphy designed in 1949 by her great uncle Charles Pollock for the logo. Art Paris director Guillaume Piens notes the fair's support for new talents and gallerists, with the selection committee approving Argo's focus on Löhr, an important German artist little-known in France. McCoy declined outside investment, opting for a flexible approach amid gallery closures, stating she has reached a point in her career where she has nothing to prove.
