Rome Launches First New Media Art Week with Free Decentralized Program
Rome inaugurates its first New Media Week from July 6 to 12, 2026, a free and decentralized festival dedicated to digital art. The event connects international creators with local communities through a program of site-specific collaborations across multiple venues. Curated by Luca Martinelli, Edition 0 treats classical sculpture, architecture, and urban space as creative raw material, exploring how new media can reactivate the past rather than replace it. The program includes exhibitions, installations, workshops, and performances at locations such as Casa Museo Hendrik Christian Andersen, Satyrus, Porte Rosse, La Galleria delle Arti, Palazzo San Lorenzo, BLA Studio, and Liminal State. Highlights include a TouchDesigner installation by Torin Blankensmith at Casa Museo Andersen, a group show curated by Anika Meier featuring Tamiko Thiel and others, and a large-scale LED water work by Lake Heckaman at Videocittà. The festival is produced in coproduction with local spaces and international new media professionals, with support from Roma Capitale. Martinelli stated that the free and decentralized model aims to build a long-term infrastructure for the creator economy in Rome.
