Revival Production of Beaumarchais' 'The Barber of Seville' Directed by Justine Vultaggio at Le Lucernaire

A new staging of Pierre Beaumarchais' classic comedy 'The Barber of Seville' is currently being presented at Le Lucernaire theater in Paris. Directed by Justine Vultaggio, this production marks a return engagement for the Modits theater company following their previous work on Labiche's 'L'Affaire de la rue de Lourcine.' The play follows the story of Rosine, a young orphan held captive by her guardian Dr. Bartholo in early 19th century Seville, with the assistance of his greedy associate Basile. As she approaches her forced marriage at age 18, Rosine falls for a mysterious suitor who turns out to be Count Almaviva. With help from his former valet, the clever barber Figaro, the count attempts to free Rosine from her confinement. The production features energetic performances that showcase characters experiencing various emotional states including passion, love, madness, neurosis, fear, and blindness. Musical interludes paying tribute to composer Rossini punctuate the theatrical work.
