Refik Anadol to Transform Smithsonian Castle with AI-Powered Projection
On July 17 and 18, starting at 9 p.m., the Smithsonian will unveil "Smithsonian Dreams," an expansive multisensory public art installation by Refik Anadol, at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This innovative project will transform the iconic Smithsonian Castle into an animated landmark. Created by Refik Anadol Studio, the installation employs a specialized AI system to reinterpret nearly 200 years of Smithsonian collections and research. Utilizing millions of digitized artifacts—including manuscripts, photographs, artworks, specimens, and scientific records—the AI produces a constantly changing visual display projected onto the Castle's red sandstone exterior and towers. Anadol, a renowned media artist and director of Refik Anadol Studio, invites the public to this free event.
