PlayStation unveils God of War: Laufey with female lead and talking cube

During a State of Play livestream, Santa Monica Studio announced God of War: Laufey, the next mainline installment in the God of War franchise. The game shifts focus to Laufey (also known as Faye), the wife of previous protagonist Kratos, who awakens in a strange realm after her funeral. A 23-minute trailer showcased Laufey as a capable warrior, with gameplay emphasizing action and exploration. The game also introduces a talking gelatinous cube voiced by Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games). Other State of Play announcements included Marvel's Wolverine (set for September 15), an Until Dawn sequel set on an abandoned tropical island, and a new Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis trailer. Fan reactions have been mixed: some celebrate the female lead, while others question the change. Gamer Imogen Mellor expressed excitement, noting that Laufey's story allows deeper exploration of a character previously only known through Kratos' memories.
