Plásmata 3 Digital Art Festival Explores Post-AI Reality in Athens Park
Plásmata 3, the largest open-air new media art festival in Europe, showcases 26 hybrid digital and physical artworks at Athens's Pedion tou Areos Park until June 15. This year's theme, 'We've met before, haven't we?', explores the complexities of post-AI existence and the indistinct lines between reality and illusion. Greek artist Efi Gousi presents Tectonic Riders (2025), a film featuring women motorcyclists in Crete reflecting on climate change and female identity through poetic exchanges. Supported by Onassis Stegi, the festival's artistic director, Afroditi Panagiotakou, cites inspiration from David Lynch's Lost Highway. Additionally, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige's video installation Where is my Mind? (2020) examines historical fragility and identity loss, while Ziad Antar's Metronome (2024) playfully addresses daily absurdities. The festival fosters a dreamlike environment, encouraging viewers to engage with contemporary concerns through public art.
