Pierre-Christophe Gam's Sanctuary of Dreams: A Nomadic Digital Temple for Collective Futures
Sanctuary of Dreams, created by Pierre-Christophe Gam, is a mobile, immersive installation that combines virtual reality, film, music, and spatial design. Drawing from African concepts of cyclical time and ancestral memory, it seeks to revive dreaming as a cultural practice. The installation features an inflatable design reminiscent of nomadic tents, requiring visitors to remove their shoes before entry. A 44-minute art film is displayed across three screens, integrating animation, soundscapes, and archival materials. Following this, guided reflection and storytelling circles collect visions for The Global Mapping of Dreams initiative. Developed during Gam's fellowship at the MIT Open Documentary Lab, it was showcased at Onassis Stegi and initially presented at Ars Electronica. The pavilion, measuring 6m x 6m x 4m, includes various interactive components and was displayed in Athens in 2025.
