Pesaro Film Festival 2026: Annaud's Name of the Rose, Nichetti Retrospective

The 62nd Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro will take place from June 13 to 20, 2026, transforming Pesaro into an open-air laboratory. The festival opens on June 13 in Piazza del Popolo with a screening of Jean-Jacques Annaud's 'The Name of the Rose' for its 40th anniversary, featuring actress Antonia Fotaras as godmother. June 14 is dedicated to Pinocchio and Carlo Collodi on the bicentenary of his birth, with short films by Gianluigi Toccafondo and Roberto Catani, and Enzo D'Alò's feature with illustrations by Lorenzo Mattotti and music by Lucio Dalla. A retrospective honors Maurizio Nichetti, covering his career from 'Ratataplan' to 'Amiche Mai', with a monograph and roundtable. The festival also focuses on research cinema with Austrian Friedl Kubelka Vom Gröller and British William Raban in the Sala Pasolini from June 16 to 20. The poster and trailer are by animator Roberto Catani, featuring sequences inspired by classics like 'Doctor Zhivago', 'Bicycle Thieves', 'A Special Day', and 'La Dolce Vita'.
