Parees Festival 2026 Adds Three Site-Specific Murals to Oviedo Streets
The Parees Festival 2026 has introduced three new murals in Oviedo, Asturias, created by artists Maite Rosende, Greta von Richthofen, and Mar Herrera. After a hiatus in 2025, the festival resumed its public-art initiative in Oviedo, which began in 2017 and now features over 40 artists. The 2026 edition offered workshops and interactive activities. Rosende's mural pays homage to La Cometa, originally crafted by Eduardo Úrculo in the 1980s. Von Richthofen's piece illustrates the sacavera d'Uviéu, with assistance from David Álvarez of the University of Oviedo. Herrera's mural captures the social history of Teatinos, evoking memories of the 1970s Feria de la Ascensión. The event is coordinated by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Oviedo.
