Otto Dix's Portrait of Sylvia von Harden Animates New Season of 'À Musée Vous, À Musée Moi' Web Series

The web series 'À Musée Vous, À Musée Moi', created by Fouzia Kechkech and directed by Fouzia Kechkech and Emmanuel Patron, launches a new season focusing on Otto Dix's 1925 painting of journalist Sylvia von Harden. This portrait, a key work of the New Objectivity movement in Germany, depicts von Harden, a free-spirited figure from Berlin's avant-garde scene who frequented the Romanisches Café. In the series, von Harden is brought to life by actress Isabelle Desplantes in five episodes available on the Centre Pompidou's YouTube channel, with sets and costumes meticulously recreating the artwork. The episodes, released every two weeks on the museum's social media, feature anachronistic humor and didactic content, avoiding special effects or artificial intelligence. Von Harden's character, wearing a monocle, drinks and smokes while recounting her posing sessions for Dix, expressing frustration over never being paid and confronting online critics mocking her appearance. The series is co-produced by the Centre Pompidou and Dada Media, aiming to revisit art history in an accessible, humorous way through 2.5-minute videos. The painting marks its centenary this year, highlighting von Harden as an icon of the 'Neue Frau' or modern woman of the 1920s. The web series began in 2018 and continues to engage audiences with its irreverent take on masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou's collection.
