Olivia Algazi Portrays Mata Hari in Avignon OFF 2026 at Espace Artéphile

Actress Olivia Algazi will perform "Mata Hari, titre provisoire" at Espace Artéphile during the Avignon OFF 2026 festival. The play, produced by La Compagnie Le Roi des Fous, follows an actress who struggles to perform a script about the legendary courtesan and spy Mata Hari. She deviates from the text, improvising through dance, song, and anger, blurring the lines between performer and character, past and present. The piece celebrates freedom and the fragile balance between fiction and reality. The company, based in Bondy (Seine-Saint-Denis), has collaborated with directors including Alicia Robledo, Jennifer Zafrilla, Paul Sebastián Mauch, and Emilie Chevrillon, and has adapted classical works such as Aristophanes' "L'Assemblée des femmes." They also engage in cultural and social projects, including health-themed performances for Institut Curie.
