NYC Pride 2026: Celebration, Mourning, and Activism on the March

The 2026 New York City Pride event combined celebration with reflection, as participants showcased signs for Broadway's 'Oh, Mary!' alongside poignant messages like 'Love Us While We Are Still Here.' Grand Marshal Bowen Yang humorously commented on his sparkling rainbow sash but was moved to tears by signs created in his honor by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. Activist Qween Jean, who carried the historic Tony Award she received this year, paid tribute to queer ancestors Cecilia Gentili and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. Judson Memorial Church's group displayed portraits of 'Saint Stephen Sondheim,' 'Saint Audre Lorde,' and 'Saint Alan Turing.' This year’s march also commemorated ten years since the Pulse nightclub tragedy and the establishment of Gays Against Guns (GAG), which held its inaugural protest at NYC Pride in 2016, just 13 days post-shooting. GAG members, honored as Grand Marshals, participated in a silent vigil surrounded by 'Human Beings'—activists in white with signs remembering gun violence victims.
