Nine Days of Green: Copenhagen's New Sound Art Festival Transforms Suburban Square

The international sound art festival, Nine Days of Green, has commenced at Sorgenfri Torv in Copenhagen, Denmark, and will continue until June 27, 2026. This event, organized by Sonic Museion – Museum of Sound Art, serves as a prototype for a future biennial. Curated by Morten Søndergaard, Habiba Sallam, and Daniela Merediz, the festival reimagines the square as a "diffuse sound library." Drawing inspiration from the 1966 New York initiative Nine Evenings: Theatre and Engineering, it explores themes of sound, memory, environment, and urban life. Notable features include DJ Relay evenings, sound walks, workshops, and commissioned pieces, alongside a temporary radio station broadcasting live. The festival also marks the 70th anniversary of Sorgenfri Torv, with aspirations to prototype a future museum within public space.
