New Digital Archive Revives Legacy of Italian Artist Augusto Salvatore Oppo

A new digital repository established by Paolo and Carlo Oppo, sons of Augusto Salvatore Oppo, sheds light on the contributions of the Italian painter, designer, and educator (Sassari, 1939–2015), who has been largely overlooked in the national art-historical discourse. The Augusto Oppo Archive has cataloged more than 500 pieces and is expanding as collectors contribute additional information and images. This initiative encourages community involvement and seeks to reunite artworks that are geographically scattered. Although Oppo began his studies in law, he ultimately devoted his life to art and education, creating an extensive yet underappreciated oeuvre. The archive stands as a vital resource for both scholars and the general public, highlighting the significance of participatory archiving for lesser-known artists.
