Na Hong-jin's 'Hope' and Yeon Sang-ho's 'Colony' to Premiere at NYAFF 2026
The 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) will feature the North American premieres of two Cannes standouts: Na Hong-jin's 'Hope' and Yeon Sang-ho's 'Colony'. 'Hope' competed for the Palme d'Or, making Na the first Korean director to have all his features invited to Cannes. 'Colony' screened in Cannes' Midnight Screenings. NYAFF runs July 10–26 across five New York venues. 'Colony' opens the festival on July 10 at Film at Lincoln Center, with Yeon and star Gianna Jun attending. 'Hope' is the centerpiece on July 20 at SVA Theatre, where Na will receive the Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema. The festival includes retrospectives of both directors' works, a 4K restoration of 'Train to Busan' for its 10th anniversary, and an Extraordinary Star Asia Award for Jun. 'Colony' is a zombie thriller set in a high-rise after a virus outbreak; 'Hope' is a genre mashup set near the DMZ, starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. Well Go USA releases 'Colony' on August 28; NEON releases 'Hope' on September 9.
