Musica Libera: Biennale Musica Brings Sound Installation to Venice Women's Prison
On October 18 and 24 at 4pm, the courtyard of Casa di reclusione femminile Venezia Giudecca will host two open rehearsals named Musica Libera. These events are part of the 70. Festival Internazionale di Musica Contemporanea della Biennale di Venezia, which takes place from October 10 to 24, directed by Caterina Barbieri. The rehearsals are the outcome of a collaborative workshop involving the prison's female inmates, young musicians from Biennale College Musica, and their mentors, leading to a live performance and sound installation. Prior to these rehearsals, three workshops were held from April to July. Participants include Wyldie Bracewell, Talullah Calderwood, Lara Dâmaso, Andrea La Pietra, alys(alys)alys, Camae Ayewa, Alif Hilal, and Simone Trabucchi. Online registration is necessary for attendance, as the initiative aims to strengthen connections with correctional facilities.
