Murdoch Family and Art Basel Parent Company Plan 2028 Ideas Festival in Basel

James and Kathryn Murdoch are collaborating with MCH Group, the parent company of Art Basel, to create a new festival called the Futurific Institute, scheduled to launch in 2028. The event aims to compete with established gatherings like the World Economic Forum and Aspen Ideas Festival by bringing together influential figures. It will be a joint venture between James Murdoch's investment firm Lupa Systems and Kathryn Murdoch's organization Futurific, which promotes 'protopia'—a concept of gradual societal improvement. The festival is expected to take place in Basel, Switzerland, during summer 2028, led by CEO Rachel Goslins. The initiative emerged from Kathryn Murdoch's desire to counter dystopian narratives with hopeful visions of the future, inspired by conversations with her daughter about climate change and democracy issues.
