Motus Presents Frankenstein Diptych Exploring Social Exclusion Through Shelley's Classic

The Italian theater company Motus premiered their diptych production 'Frankenstein_diptych (love story + history of hate)' at Bologna's Arena del Sole on March 14-15, 2026. Founded by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò in 1991, Motus uses Mary Shelley's 1818 novel to examine contemporary social dynamics where rejection creates monstrous behavior. The two-part work combines theater, performance, and installation elements. The first section, 'Frankenstein (love story)' from 2023, features Silvia Calderoni, Alexia Sarantopoulou, and Casagrande exploring isolation through minimal staging. The second part, 'Frankenstein (history of hate)' from 2025, incorporates film shot in Calabrian locations with additional performers Tomiwa Samson Segun Aina and Yuan Hu. The production connects Shelley's themes to current issues of marginalization and received the Special Ubu Prize in 2025.
