Milan Allocates €960,000 for Summer Cultural Festivals and Events in Peripheral Neighborhoods

The city of Milan has launched the 2026 edition of its 'Milano è Viva nei Quartieri' initiative, a funding program designed to support live performances and cultural activities in the city's outlying districts. With a total budget of €960,000, the program aims to create a diverse schedule of events from July through September, focusing on strengthening connections between cultural offerings, community inclusion, and urban vitality. The call targets professional live performance operators and established cultural organizations, structured around two main components: support for eight festivals distributed across Municipalities 2 through 9 (excluding the central Municipality 1), and funding for 24 distinct projects intended to activate neighborhoods through multidisciplinary events. Eligible activities include theater, music, dance, and circus arts, with particular emphasis on programming during August, a period traditionally challenging for cultural offerings in the city. Proposals must demonstrate strong engagement with local communities, promote accessibility and inclusion, and establish collaborations with organizations already active in the neighborhoods. Funding can cover up to 80% of project costs without generating profits beyond break-even, with selected projects eligible for an advance payment of up to 50%. Milan's Cultural Councillor Tommaso Sacchi emphasized that the initiative represents a concrete investment to support artists and cultural operators while reinforcing community bonds and social inclusion.
