Mia Goth Condemns Instagram for Viral AI Image on Verified Fan Account

British actress Mia Goth has criticized Instagram after a fake, AI-generated image of her circulated on a verified account. The image, posted by @miagoth_ two days after Goth filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf on October 6, showed her in a t-shirt reading “MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN” and included Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” as audio. The post amassed hundreds of thousands of likes, with entertainment outlets like OK! and People reporting it as real. Goth’s spokesperson, Christine Tripicchio, called Instagram’s handling “incomprehensible” and stated that Goth does not use social media. Tripicchio also said multiple complaints were filed to remove the verified fan account, which had over one million followers. Meta spokesperson Alex Dziedzan later confirmed the account was removed for impersonating a public figure. The incident highlights issues with Meta’s paid verification system, which allows fan accounts to obtain blue checkmarks. Goth, known for Ti West’s X trilogy and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, had been in an on-off relationship with LaBeouf since 2012 and legally married since October 2016.
