Maze Design Basel expands with more exhibitors and art focus in second edition

Maze Design Basel returns for its second edition, expanding with more exhibitors and a stronger art-and-design focus. The boutique fair, launched last year by a group of mostly Paris-based dealers after Design Miami Basel ended, takes place at Offene Kirche Elisabethen, a church near Basel's museums and Kunsthalle. A tent in front of the church hosts new exhibitors this year. The fair now allows all exhibitors to show art on their booths, giving it a hybrid spirit. Laffanour—Galerie Downtown presents works by Jeremy Jaspers, Joana Vasconcelos, and Ken Grimes, with a centerpiece Ours Polaire sofa by Jean Royère (over €1m) and a Mexique bookcase by Charlotte Perriand. During the soft opening, attended by Art Basel dealers and clients, visitors were mainly European and American, represented by advisers. New York's Salon 94 Design won the Maze/Art Awards F.P. Journe for a bamboo-and-silk seat by Bijoy Jain with Studio Mumbai (around €20,000), which will enter the Vitra Design Museum collection. The fair runs until 18 June.
