Matt Ryan returns as Welsh pirate Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced

Matt Ryan, the actor from Swansea, is set to return as Edward Kenway in the revamped version of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, named Black Flag Resynced, which launches on Thursday. He initially voiced Kenway and provided motion capture for the character in the 2013 installment, a major success for the series. The narrative follows Kenway, also hailing from Swansea, as he embarks on a journey to the Caribbean, transitioning from a privateer to a pirate and assassin. Ryan drew inspiration from his childhood in Wales, recalling days spent running on village greens and wielding sticks as swords. The character's original northern English accent was altered to reflect Ryan's Welsh accent. Historical figures like Blackbeard, Mary Read, and Anne Bonny appear in the game. At 45, Ryan studied performing arts at Gorseinon College and drama in Bristol, and he has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company since 2004. He is well-known for portraying Detective John Constantine in NBC's Constantine and in various animated adaptations. Ryan expressed enthusiasm about reprising the role after more than a decade.
