MARE SEA REEL 2026: Mediterranean Video Contest Returns with €3,000 in Prizes

Cultura Inquieta and MARE have launched the third edition of MARE SEA REEL, a vertical video contest celebrating the Balearic Sea and the Mediterranean. The competition offers €3,000 in total prizes across four categories: BLUE (Balearic Islands, €1,000), SALT (three €200 accésits for Balearic Islands), MED (Mediterranean, €1,000), and VIRAL (€400 for most Instagram likes). Submissions open from July 1 to September 1, 2026. Participants must post reels on Instagram with hashtag #BeReelForTheSea26, follow @marebalear and @culturainquieta, and complete an online form. Videos must be 30-60 seconds, 9:16 format, HD or higher, shot in the Mediterranean, and related to marine conservation. No aerial footage without permits, and no minors under 12. The jury includes underwater documentarian Enrique Talledo, environmental educator Abbey C. Díaz, and Cultura Inquieta. The Viral prize is determined by likes. Winning reels will be featured on MARE and Cultura Inquieta platforms and may screen at Balearic film festivals. Last year's Viral winner was Víctor de Vallés; the first prize went to César Canudas Osuna. Participants must be 16+ (under 18 need guardian consent). Up to three reels per person are allowed, including previously created content republished within the contest period.
