Manifesta 16+ Projects: Sacred Kitchen, Sing Our Songs!, Zuhören, and This is not a Bar
Manifesta 16+ has chosen 16 projects from the Ruhr area. At the Fulerum community center in Essen, Beate Gärtner's 'Sacred Kitchen' showcases culinary creations inspired by artists Sung Mi Marina Kim, Julia Priss, and Karla Paredes, along with conversations about the personal significance of these dishes. Gärtner, a graduate of Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, will unveil a video installation in October. Pastor Markus Pottbäcker leads 'Sing Our Songs!', which revives labor songs and Gastarbeiter music, featuring 'Keiner schiebt uns weg' from the 1979 labor movement. Additionally, 'Zuhören' by Makroscope e. V. and Ruhrorter takes place in the former St. Engelbert church, offering a radio play and shared meals. Felix Meermann and Wilko Meiborg will convert a Dortmund church into a temporary pub reminiscent of 'Gelsenkirchener Barock'.
