Luís Carvalho Unveils SS27 "WILDFLOWER" Collection at ModaLisboa
Portuguese designer Luís Carvalho presented his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, titled WILDFLOWER, at ModaLisboa, where it was singled out as a standout of the week's programming. The show was staged in Lisbon with support from APICCAPS Portugal, the footwear industry body whose invitation brought the writer to the Portuguese capital. Backstage, photographer Luís Miguel Fonseca shot a series of frames for ModaLisboa powered by CANON, capturing pre-runway tension and textile detail. Carvalho's concept turns on memory, nostalgia and time, evoking an analogue childhood lived outdoors before screens became ubiquitous; he translates that mood into lightness, play and curiosity rather than literal motifs. Wild flora swaying in wind informs the visual language, with flowers treated as architectural patterns — petal-like volumes and layered panels that seem to grow across the body. Tailoring is loosened into deconstructed lines, fluid layers and relaxed proportions. Materials set fragile, whisper-weight textiles against structured foundations, a contrast meant to suggest how time blurs some memories and sharpens others. The palette centers on ecru, beige and neutral grey, accented with grass green, warm salmon and sky blue. Carvalho founded his eponymous label in 2013 and is described as a two-time Golden Globe winner. Footwear came from Seaside, hair by Helena Vaz Pereira of griffehairstyle, make-up by Antónia Rosa Atelier, and the soundtrack by Ed Rocha Gonçalves.
