LMU Students Write Wikipedia Entries for Staatsgalerie Schleißheim

A seminar collaboration between LMU Munich and the Bavarian State Painting Collections enabled students to research and write Wikipedia articles on Baroque masterpieces from the Staatsgalerie Schleißheim. The project, led by Henry Kaap and Theresa Gatarski, took place in the winter semester 2025/26. Students visited the New Palace in Schleißheim, guided by curator Mirjam Neumeister and art educator Theresa Gatarski, and later by restorer Carolin Vogt and administrator Klaus Gruber. They created entries on works by artists such as Johann Heinrich Schönfeld, Guido Cagnacci, Francesco Furini, Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Thomas Willeboirts, and Joachim von Sandrart. The project aimed to make art historical knowledge publicly accessible on Wikipedia, supported by the Wikipedia community (kuwiki, WikiMUC). The Staatsgalerie, housed in the New Palace built by Elector Max Emanuel, features over 200 Baroque paintings, including works by Peter Paul Rubens, Nicolas Poussin, and Luca Giordano, displayed in the restored Grande Galerie since 2001.
