Librokilo's Itinerant Book-by-Weight Event Returns to Verona, Addressing Italy's Publishing Overproduction

festival-fair · 2026-04-09

Librokilo is set to return to Verona on April 11-12, 2026, at Habitat 83. Established in 2022 by Michaela Molinari and Lucia Concilio, this initiative offers used and rare books for €10 per kilogram, tackling a fundamental challenge within the Italian publishing sector. To date, over 120,000 books have been recirculated through approximately twenty events across Italy. This effort addresses a market where more than 30% of books fail to sell even a single copy each year, amidst the publication of over 230 new titles daily in Italy, many of which remain unsold. Librokilo collects books throughout the year and organizes sales, enabling participants to trade books for vouchers while fostering a love for reading and engaging with the secondhand market, showcasing respect for cultural labor through the reuse of discarded books.
