La Embajada Opens 2026 Call for Spanish Contemporary Photography Projects in Arles
La Embajada has announced a public call for its third edition, selecting photographic projects to promote contemporary Spanish photography within European circuits. The initiative, organized through Plataforma Fotografía e Imagen with collaboration from El Local and support from Spain's Ministry of Culture, represents a new phase for the project following two independently organized editions. The program aims to bridge Spanish contemporary photography with European networks, addressing historical underrepresentation internationally. Selected participants will showcase their work in a temporary "embajada" space during the festival opening in Arles, with professional meetings and mediation activities requiring artists' presence throughout the opening week. The call is open from March 23 to April 19, 2026, to photographers aged 18 or older who were born or reside in Spain. Participants may submit one proposal digitally at no cost, with works required to be completed and ready for exhibition. Each chosen artist will receive €1,400 in fees, with jury members to be announced via the project's Instagram account. La Embajada's development coincides with Plataforma Fotografía e Imagen's broader efforts, including advocacy for Spain's National Photography Center established in 2021 and creation of the country's first Virtual Photography Portal. The platform, supported by over 8,900 professionals who signed the manifesto for a national photography center, focuses on archive recovery, network strengthening, and contemporary photography promotion.
