Karim Crippa Unveils 2026 Art Basel Paris: 32 New Galleries, Record 12 Joint Booths

festival-fair · 2026-05-28

Karim Crippa, the new director of Art Basel Paris, has outlined the 2026 edition, which brings 32 first-time galleries to the Grand Palais alongside a record 12 joint booth presentations. The Premise sector, exclusive to Paris and judged on original curatorial projects, expands to twelve galleries in a larger space, nine of them first-time exhibitors. Among the presentations Crippa cites are Olney Gleason pairing Robert Indiana and Ellsworth Kelly through works from Indiana's personal collection, kó's examination of the Nsukka School, and Almeida & Dale on Tarsila do Amaral and Brazilian modernism. Joint booths link galleries across Korea and Japan, Turin and Berlin, Spain and Austria, and New York and London. Emergence emphasizes solo presentations for younger artists. Oh La La! returns October 23 and 24 with guest curator Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, inviting galleries to rehang booths around a theme. The free Public Program places works by Cosima von Bonin, Marcello Maloberti, Yinka Shonibare, Alicja Kwade and Robert Indiana across the Grand Palais area and city institutions. Crippa frames the fair as part of a Paris ecosystem, pointing to fall shows including Kerry James Marshall at the Musée d'Art Moderne and Jenny Holzer at the Musée d'Orsay.
