John Travolta to Debut Directorial Work at 2026 Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival announced on April 2 that actor John Travolta will present his first film as a director at the 2026 edition. The film, titled 'Vol de Nuit pour Los Angeles,' has been selected for the Cannes Première section. This marks Travolta's return to the festival where he previously presented award-winning films including 'Pulp Fiction,' which won the Palme d'Or in 1994. The project is an adaptation of a book Travolta published in 1997. Festival organizers described the event as both unexpected and exciting, noting Travolta's iconic status in popular culture through roles in films like 'Saturday Night Fever,' 'Grease,' and 'Hairspray.' The film tells the story of a young aviation enthusiast named Jeff who embarks on a cross-country flight to Hollywood with his mother, portrayed as a nostalgic journey through commercial aviation's golden age. Travolta, a licensed pilot since age 22 who is qualified to operate Boeing aircraft and was the first private pilot to fly an Airbus A380, brings personal passion to the aviation-themed narrative. The world premiere will take place at the Palais des Festivals' Debussy theater with Travolta in attendance.
